The last three days, a major exhibition concerning e-health took place in Utrecht. We picked three major trends for the future. First, how to provide best services in an ageing population. Remote sensing solutions are the top priority in this sector together with resource management and emergency response. For the moment we see solutions for closed environments, such as elderly homes. The challenge is how to expand these models for those who choose to stay at their home environment.
Second, challenges concern
the patient's medical file. Key challenge was how information can be shared with different health personnel that is engaged in the health provision. We think that medical service provision is a complex environment that engages different specialised personnel that need to exchange information to achieve a better result. We consider that a "peer 2 peer" approach might provide a perspective to this end, connecting necessary people and saving millions of investments in infrastructure ( e.g. similar data stored in expensive DCs).
The last trend dealt with specialised applications and gadgets that serve specific needs. Apps that connect you to your personal dietitian for diabetes control, or your personal trainer for rehabilitation are becoming more and more common. This market can have a significant potential in distance health provision. Not to mention that if insurance sector pushes towards adoption of such practices definitely we will see an exponential growth.
Cutting a long story short, the following years we will experience more interaction with technology in the health sector, expecting a significant improvement in the total circle of the health provision.
